Dish Soap

A simpler way to clean your kitchen

Most modern dish soaps are designed to look good on the bench, but underneath, they’re watered down, filled with synthetic detergents, and gone in weeks.

Tallow dish soap goes back to basics.

Made using traditional ingredients, it creates a rich, effective lather that actually cuts through grease, without needing a plastic bottle or a long list of chemicals.

What is tallow dish soap?

Tallow dish soap is a solid soap made from rendered beef fat (tallow) combined with oils like coconut and castor oil.

Through a traditional process called saponification, these ingredients are transformed into a firm, long-lasting bar that cleans effectively while remaining simple and practical.

It’s not new. It’s how cleaning used to be done, before everything became diluted and overcomplicated.

Why it works so well on grease

Grease needs to be broken down properly, not just moved around.

Tallow-based soap works because:

  • It binds to oils and fats
  • It lifts residue off surfaces
  • It rinses clean with hot water

In our own home and workshop, we use it to clean:

  • Greasy pans and trays
  • Stovetops and splashbacks
  • Benchtops and sinks
  • Soap-making equipment covered in tallow and oils

If it can clean that, it can handle everyday dishes without a problem.

More than just dish soap

Despite the name, this isn’t just for dishes.

A single bar can replace multiple cleaning products in your kitchen.

Use it for:

  • Dishwashing
  • Heavy grease clean-up
  • Kitchen surfaces
  • Oily or waxy residue
  • General sink and bench cleaning

Simple, effective, and no clutter under the sink.

How to use it properly (this matters)

Tallow dish soap works best when used the right way.

For best results:

  1. Use hot water
  2. Wet your brush or cloth
  3. Rub directly onto the soap bar
  4. Clean and rinse as normal

Hot water helps activate the soap and break down grease properly.

How long does a bar last?

This is where most people are surprised.

With everyday use:

  • 1 bar lasts 2–3 months
  • That’s significantly longer than most liquid dish soaps

Because it’s a solid bar, you’re not paying for water—just actual product.

A practical, plastic-free alternative

Switching to a solid dish soap is one of the easiest ways to reduce plastic in your home.

No bottles. No pumps. No waste.

Just a bar that does the job properly.
