What is beef tallow?

Beef tallow is purified beef fat that has been slowly rendered to remove impurities. It has been used for generations in cooking, soap making and skincare because of its stability and nourishing properties.

Why do you use tallow?

We choose tallow because it has been trusted for generations. It creates long-lasting soap with a rich creamy lather and makes wonderfully nourishing balms and skincare products using simple, traditional ingredients.

Are your products handmade?

Yes. Every product is handmade in small batches here in Tasmania. From rendering our own tallow through to pouring, cutting, labelling and packing, every step is completed by hand.

Are your products natural?

We focus on simple, thoughtfully chosen ingredients. Many of our products contain tallow, natural oils, clays, botanicals and essential oils, avoiding unnecessary fillers wherever possible.

Do you use artificial fragrances?

No. Our scented products are fragranced with carefully selected essential oils rather than synthetic fragrance oils.

Are your soaps suitable for sensitive skin?

Many customers with dry or sensitive skin enjoy our unscented soaps and tallow balms. Every person's skin is different, so we always recommend patch testing before using any new skincare product.

Do your products contain preservatives?

Traditional cold-process soaps do not require preservatives because of the saponification process. Some other products are formulated according to their specific ingredients and intended use.

Are your products vegan?

No. Our products are made using beef tallow, which is an animal-derived ingredient.

Are your products tested on animals?

No. We do not test our finished products on animals.

Allow your soap to dry completely between uses by storing it on a well-draining soap dish. Keeping it out of standing water will help it last much longer.

How should I store my tallow balm?

Store your balm in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. During very warm weather it may soften naturally, but this won't affect its quality.

Can I use your products every day?

Yes. Our soaps, balms and hair care products are designed for regular everyday use. As with any skincare product, discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Why do handmade soaps feel different from commercial soap?

Traditional handmade soap contains naturally formed glycerin, which helps attract moisture to the skin. Many commercial soaps remove glycerin during manufacturing and replace it with synthetic detergents.

Why does handmade soap vary slightly?

Every batch is handmade, so slight differences in colour, pattern or appearance are completely normal. These variations are part of the character of genuine handmade products.

Do your products contain palm oil?

This is one of the first questions many soap buyers ask.
