Vanilla Bean Infused Tallow: What It Is and How We Make It

Some ingredients don't need improving. They simply need time.
That's how we feel about vanilla.
Rather than adding fragrance oils or artificial scents, we slowly infuse real Australian-grown vanilla beans into carefully rendered beef tallow using traditional methods. It's a slower process, but one that produces the gentle, comforting aroma we were hoping for.
At Healing Season, every batch of our Vanilla Bean Tallow Balm is handmade in Tasmania using beef tallow infused with premium vanilla beans sourced from Cassowary Coast Vanilla in Far North Queensland, then blended with nourishing jojoba oil.
It's a simple recipe, made with patience, because we believe good ingredients speak for themselves.
What Is Vanilla Bean Infused Tallow?
Vanilla bean infused tallow is beef tallow that has been slowly infused with whole vanilla beans over many hours, allowing the natural aromatic compounds within the beans to gently become part of the tallow.
Unlike products scented with fragrance oils or vanilla essential oil, our infusion simply uses:
- Traditionally rendered beef tallow
- Real Australian vanilla beans
- Gentle heat
- Time
The result is a beautifully simple ingredient with a soft, natural vanilla aroma rather than an overpowering perfume.
Why We Use Real Australian Vanilla Beans
When we decided to create our Vanilla Bean Tallow Balm, we knew we didn't want to simply add fragrance and call it vanilla.
Instead, we wanted the gentle aroma that only comes from real vanilla beans.
That's why we source our vanilla beans from Cassowary Coast Vanilla, a family-run Australian vanilla grower in tropical Far North Queensland.
Their premium vanilla beans are slowly infused into our traditionally rendered beef tallow over many hours, allowing the natural aroma of the beans to become part of the tallow itself.
There are no vanilla fragrance oils and no vanilla essential oil—just real vanilla beans, time and patience.
Like many traditional methods, it's slower than the modern alternative, but we believe some things are worth doing properly.
How We Make Our Vanilla Bean Tallow
Carefully Rendered Beef Tallow
Everything begins with high-quality beef suet that is slowly rendered into clean, pure tallow using gentle temperatures.
Rendering the tallow carefully creates a beautifully smooth base before the vanilla infusion even begins.
Our Slow Vanilla Infusion Process
Good ingredients deserve time.
After carefully rendering our beef tallow in Tasmania, we prepare each vanilla bean by hand, splitting it open to expose the tiny vanilla seeds inside.
The beans are then gently infused into the warm tallow over many hours. This slow process allows the subtle aroma of real vanilla to naturally develop throughout the tallow without relying on artificial fragrances.
Once the infusion is complete, the vanilla beans are removed and the infused tallow is blended with jojoba oil to create our Vanilla Bean Tallow Balm.
The result is a beautifully simple balm with a soft, comforting vanilla aroma that comes from the beans themselves.
Blended Into Our Vanilla Bean Tallow Balm
Once the vanilla infusion is complete, the tallow is blended with jojoba oil.
Jojoba oil helps the balm spread beautifully while allowing the traditional character of the tallow to remain the hero of the product.
Our Vanilla Bean Tallow Balm contains just:
- Vanilla bean infused beef tallow
- Jojoba oil
Nothing more.
Why We Choose Traditional Ingredients
Modern skincare often comes with long ingredient lists full of stabilisers, synthetic fragrances and ingredients many people have never heard of.
While those products certainly have their place, we've chosen a simpler approach.
At Healing Season we enjoy making products that reflect older traditions:
- Small-batch production
- Straightforward ingredients
- Careful preparation
- Practical everyday use
Simple doesn't automatically mean suitable for everyone, but many Australians appreciate knowing exactly what they're putting on their skin.
As with any skincare product, everyone's skin is different, so we always recommend patch testing before first use.
What Does Vanilla Bean Tallow Balm Feel Like?
Many people are surprised by how little is needed.
Our tallow balm is highly concentrated, so a pea-sized amount is often enough for smaller areas.
As it warms with your body temperature, it softens and spreads easily across the skin.
Using more than necessary may leave the skin feeling heavier, while applying a small amount generally provides a lighter finish.
Who Might Enjoy Vanilla Bean Tallow Balm?
Our Vanilla Bean Tallow Balm is popular with people looking for:
- A simple everyday moisturiser
- Traditional tallow skincare
- A naturally scented alternative to heavily fragranced products
- Minimal ingredient skincare
- Tasmanian-made products crafted in small batches
Everyone's skin is unique, so individual experiences will naturally differ.
Supporting Australian Producers

Handmade in Tasmania
Every Healing Season product is made by hand in Tasmania in small batches.
