Our Botanical Tallow Soap is one of the more complex bars we make at Healing Season, bringing together traditional tallow soapmaking with infused olive oil, raw honey, botanicals and a warm essential oil blend.
At the heart of the recipe is tallow, combined with coconut oil and olive oil that we infuse ourselves with chamomile tea, green tea and cloves.
We then add raw honey, turmeric, black walnut hull, ginger and vitamin E, before finishing the soap with sweet orange, frankincense, lavender and clove bud essential oils.
It might look like a simple little bar, but there's a lot hiding inside it.
WHY THESE INGREDIENTS?
This recipe was developed with purpose.
Many of the ingredients we chose have long histories of use in traditional soapmaking, herbal preparations and skincare. Rather than making big claims about what a rinse-off soap can do, we simply love bringing those traditional ingredients together in a practical everyday bar.
Tallow
A traditional soapmaking fat that helps create a firm, long-lasting bar with a beautifully creamy lather.
Botanical-Infused Olive Oil
We infuse our olive oil with chamomile tea, green tea and cloves before it ever reaches the soap pot. Olive oil itself has a long history in traditional soapmaking, while these botanicals have been valued in traditional herbal preparations for generations.
Coconut Oil
Balances our tallow and olive oil and helps give the finished soap its cleansing, bubbly lather.
Raw Honey
Honey has been used in traditional skin and bathing preparations for centuries. Its natural sugars also contribute to the lather of handmade soap.
Turmeric
A distinctive golden botanical with a long history of traditional cosmetic and cultural use.
Black Walnut Hull
An unusual botanical with a fascinating history in traditional herbal preparations. We include it as part of the botanical character of this recipe rather than making therapeutic claims about its historical uses.
Ginger
Another botanical with a long history of traditional use and part of the inspiration behind this formulation.
Vitamin E
Included as part of our carefully considered oil-based formulation.
THE ESSENTIAL OIL BLEND
The scent comes entirely from essential oils rather than synthetic fragrance oil.
Sweet orange brings a fresh citrus lift, lavender adds a soft herbaceous floral note, frankincense adds warm resinous depth and clove bud finishes the blend with gentle spice.
The result is a warm, earthy botanical scent with just enough citrus to brighten it.

CARE
Allow your soap to dry between uses to help extend the life of the bar.
External use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
